Life at The Elms
Privacy & Dignity
Procedures and policies are in place to ensure that at all times we respect the privacy and dignity of those staying at The Elms. Every member of staff understand the importance of preserving and maintaining the dignity, autonomy, individuality and privacy of all residents within a warm and caring atmosphere, and when so doing, will ensure that they are sensitive to the ever changing needs of the residents. If residents require a door lock then one can be fitted to meet with current Health & Safety guidelines. This ensures emergency access for staff whilst enabling residents to lock their doors with no fear of entrapment. Post is delivered to the addressee on arrival unless we are asked to make alternative arrangements, and all rooms can be connected for main line phone usage if the occupant wishes. Residents have the right to access all of their personal records kept at the Home. Alternatively, a resident may nominate someone else, such as the next of kin, to access the records on their behalf. |
Social Activities
The Elms designates a member of staff to fulfil the role of activities coordinator. They are responsible for organising a wide variety of activities and events to suit the needs of the residents. These are displayed on the notice board in the main lounge. For those who do not wish to participate in a group environment we can offer one to one with our activities co-ordinator. We have a regular Christmas Party, as well as other functions including Summer Garden Parties, Cheese & Wine evenings, Quiz Nights, Sing a Long sessions, etc.. Visits outside of the Home are organised according to the residents’ wishes. Regular resident meetings ensure that they have full consultation on the running of the Home. Meetings are supplemented by the use of surveys to further gauge resident opinions, wishes and views. |
Maintaining Links
The Elms operates an ‘Open House’ policy towards visitors to the Home. We encourage relatives, friends and other voluntary organisations to visit the Home during the day. This enables visitors to come along when it is convenient to them. Residents can receive visitors where they choose e.g.: their bedroom, the lounges or in the garden (weather permitting!). |
